See What Golblum Almost Looked Like in THE FLY Concept Art by Chris Walas and Stephan Dupuis

The Fly (1986) concept art by Stephan Dupuis

Check out The Fly concept art and storyboards by Chris Walas, Stephan Dupuis and Harold Michelson!

Every Friday I feature artwork from a classic of science fiction cinema. This week's "Flashback Friday" post is on The Fly (1986).

The mutated Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum), known as "Brundlefly", make-up effects were created by Chris Walas and makeup artist Stephan Dupuis. The pair started with the final design of the creature and then figured out the seven stages to transform Brundle from his normal form to the mutated version. The pair won the 1986 Academy Award and BAFTA for Best Makeup.

Chris Walas and Stephan Dupuis are professional make-up artists who've worked on Hollywood films like Gremlins (1984), 300 (2006) and I Am Legend (2007). Harold Michelson is a professional illustrator, storyboard artist, art director and production designer who's worked on major projects like Spaceballs (1987) and Star Trek the Motion Picture (1979).

  1. Makeup this week! Cool stuff. Again, it's a movie I haven't seen. The idea has always creeped me out. I admire the artwork, though.
